Wanderlust in Xitang

Finally sharing pictures of this old watertown we visited LAST chinese new year!  Its a comfortable 2 hour bus drive from Shanghai, the bus goes direct and back.

T said he visited this town, Xi Tang back when he was living in Shanghai in 2009.  And the town was back then…empty.  You didn’t even have to pay to walk through the town.  Now, they’ve made a gate, and you have to pay 100 RMB to get into the village.  And every little house in the village is now occupied by a tourist shop.  I would never get these tourist shops.  Noone ever buys from them.  Most of the tourists are Chinese anyways, and they are selling things made in a small town, probably from where the tourist comes from.  Why sell them at all?  Weird.
